APSM Engineering
Sheet Metal Laser Cutting Services
Send a DXF or a STEP file, and we will cut it. Sheet metal laser cutting in mild steel, stainless steel, aluminium, brass and copper, sheets up to 1525 by 3050mm, on a 12kW fibre laser that cuts thick plate as fast as thin sheet.
APSM Engineering
Fibre Laser Cutting
We cut on a Mazak Optiplex 3015 Neo, a 12kW fibre laser. The maximum sheet size is 1525 by 3050 mm.
Fibre is what lets us take brass and copper. Both reflect the beam rather than absorbing it, which is why a lot of subcontractors will not quote for them.
Beam diameter control and variable beam mode let the machine change its cut profile between materials. That is what keeps it as good on a 0.5 mm sheet as it is on a plate. Control is MAZATROL SmoothLx.
Sheet Metal Laser Cutting Capabilities
APSM Engineering operates one of the most advanced fibre laser cutting systems in Wales, delivering precision, speed, and repeatability across a wide range of materials. Our investment in the latest laser technology allows us to offer high-quality cutting solutions with fast turnaround times and exceptional consistency.
Mazak Optiplex 3015 NEO – 12kW Fibre Laser
Our 12kW fibre laser system provides outstanding performance across both thin and thick materials, combining speed with exceptional cut quality.
Key capabilities include:
Maximum sheet size: 1525 mm x 3050 mm
X & Y axis accuracy over 500 mm: ±0.005 mm
Repeatability: ±0.005 mm
Advanced MAZATROL SmoothLx CNC control
Beam Diameter Control and Variable Beam Mode for optimum cutting across different materials and thicknesses
This technology allows us to achieve tight tolerances, clean edges, and excellent repeatability on complex profiles.

Benefits of Fibre Laser Cutting
Our sheet metal laser cutting service delivers:
- High accuracy and repeatability
- Faster cutting speeds and shorter lead times
- Clean edges with minimal secondary finishing
- Ability to cut reflective and non-ferrous metals
- Efficient nitrogen cutting for improved coating and painting results
- Environmentally friendly, energy-efficient processing
- The versatility of our fibre laser also enables intricate designs, decorative cutting, engraving, and marking, transforming customer concepts into high-quality finished components.
One Supplier, Start To Finish
Cutting is usually step one. The flat sheet goes on the laser; the bar, tube and section are sawn to length. The part still has to be folded, joined, tapped and coated before it is any use.
All of that happens here, in the same building in Swansea. A cut part does not sit on a pallet waiting for a courier, and a tolerance argument between two suppliers never starts.
Send a drawing and take back a finished component. Or take the blanks and do the rest yourself. Plenty of our subcontract laser cutting work goes out exactly like that to other fabricators covering overflow.
More Questions
Can you cut brass and copper?
Yes. Both reflect the laser beam rather than absorb it, which is why a lot of laser cutting services will not quote for them. Our 12 kW fibre has the power to handle both. Send the drawing with the thickness and we will confirm we can cut it.
What file formats do you need?
DXF or STEP. A flat DXF is quickest to quote. A 3D STEP is fine too, and we will produce the flat pattern from it.
What is the biggest sheet you can cut?
1525 by 3050 mm. If your part is longer than that, it will need cutting in sections and joining, which we can also do here.
How accurate is the cut?
The machine positions to ±0.005 mm, but that is not the tolerance you will see on the finished part. Real cut tolerance depends on the material, the thickness, and the geometry, and it opens up as the plate gets thicker. Tell us which dimensions are critical, and we will confirm what we can hold before you commit.
Do you cut the tube or box section?
Bar, tube and box section are cut to length on our CNC saws instead.
Can you cut Hardox and Strenx?
Yes. Abrasion-resistant and high-strength grades behave differently under the beam than standard mild steel, the cut edge changes and the parameters change with it. Tell us the grade and thickness when you enquire, and we will confirm.
Do you take one-off jobs?
Yes. Prototypes and repeat production go through the same machine, so a single part gets the same setup as a run of a hundred.
Can you fold and finish the parts too?
Yes. Bending, welding, and threaded inserts happen here. Powder coating and zinc plating go through selected finishing partners and come back to us for dispatch, so you deal with one supplier for the whole job.
